By Breaking Belize News Staff: Brandon Huges and Jose Gomes, the men convicted of the murder of 75-year-old businessman Oscar Rosado Sr. have been sentenced by the High Court of Belize.
On Friday, Huges was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years, while Gomez was sentenced to 12 years with parole eligibility after eight years.
Justice Susan Lamb further deducted the four years, seven months, and 18 days off Huges’s sentence for the time he spent on remand, leaving him with 25 years 4 months, and 12 days left to serve before parole eligibility. Meanwhile, Gomez had three years and five months deducted from his sentence, leaving him with four years and seven months before parole eligibility.
Justice Lamb said that a life sentence was fitting for Huges who pulled the trigger, but not appropriate for Gomez who was only an accomplice.
On April 23, 2018, Oscar Rosado Sr. was fatally shot during a robbery at his business, Rosado’s Construction Supplies on Cemetery Road, Belize City. Huges and Gomez were convicted of his murder on December 9, 2022.
