Samuel August gets 35 years in jail for killing ex-mother in law and his own son with a backhoe

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Samuel August, who pleaded guilty to killing his own son and his ex-mother-in-law by crashing a backhoe into their bedroom back in 2018, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Justice Susan Lamb sentenced August on Friday, following his guilty plea for murder back in November 2022.

Justice Lamb deducted 10 years for his guilty plea and the time he spent on remand, leaving him with just over 20 years to spend, before being eligible for parole.

August, a former employee of the Belize City Council, is currently serving a 7-year sentence for armed robbery, in connection with the same incident, where he stole a vehicle from the parking lot at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in an attempt to escape from police.

August had operated heavy machinery for the city council and in the early morning of October 31, 2018, drove a backhoe into the Fabers Road home of Adelia Young, killing 53-year-old Louis Young, five-year-old Samir August, and injuring a 13-year-old girl.
