By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Mexico has implemented a total ban on smoking in public places, BBC reports.
The ban was first approved in 2021 and includes a ban on tobacco advertising.
Several other countries in the region have also passed laws to create more smoke-free spaces.
But, Mexico’s ban is considered one of the most strictest since the existing 2008 law created smoke-free spaces in bars, restaurants and work places is now extended to all public spaces.
In addition, advertising and promoting tobacco products is being banned.
The Pan American Health Organisation has commended the Mexican government for the move.
