International News: Taiwan officials detect 4 Chinese military aircraft, 3 naval ships around country

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense informed that between Sunday, January 15, and Monday, January 16, 2023, it tracked 4 Chinese military aircraft and 3 naval vessels around Taiwan, Taiwan News reports.

The Chinese aircraft did not cross the Taiwan Strait.

But, in response, Taiwan sent aircraft and naval ships to monitor the Chinese aircraft and vessels.

For this month alone, China has reportedly sent 209 military aircraft and 54 naval ships around Taiwan.

There have been heightened tensions since China claims the self-governing island.
