Ana López Camp of Team Splash captured the top spot in the Father of the Nation 10K Women’s Category in Belmopan on Sunday, January 15, on the occasion of George Price Day.
López Camp won the race held in honour of the late Prime Minister George Price in 43 minutes, 26.6 seconds (43:26.6), according to Total Time Belize. The race that ran through Belmopan, took to the Philip Goldson and Hummingbird Highways, and Forest Drive, started and ended at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
Lopez Camp won last year’s Father of the Nation race which covered eight kilometers, She clocked 35 minutes and 13.1 seconds.
López Camp was followed by Roxana Lemus of the Westrac Slick Runners who placed second in 45:21.5.
López Camp was eight overall in the mixed race with the men. Lemus was 10th.
Lemus’ Westrac teammates Irene Thiessen (48:43.9) and Evelyn Zuleta (50:20.0) were third and fourth respectively.
Kathleen Azueta Cho of the Western Road Runners took fifth place in 53:28.5.
Splash’s Rossy Guardado was sixth in 53:47.0.
Mirtha Welch of the Roaring Creek Vet Clinic finished seventh in 54:32.6.
Splash’s Byanka Castillo (54:55.2) was eighth, Running Sisters’ Lilly Waight Cocom (56:06.5) took ninth, and Neydy Lopez (56:34.6) rounded off the top ten.
All 38 women who started the race completed the 10 kilometers.
