International News: Proceedings could commence to extradite El Chapo’s son to the U.S.

Posted: Tuesday, January 17, 2023. 2:51 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Proceedings to extradite Ovidio Guzman Lopez, the son of Sinaloa cartel kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman could commence since a Mexican court declared that it lacked legal jurisdiction to hear and resolve this case, Latin Post reports.

The judge reportedly denied the definitive suspension in one of the injunction proceedings against Ovidio.

Attorneys of Guzman Lopez had filed a writ of amparo against his deportation, expulsion, or extradition to the U.S.

The U.S. had offered $5 million for information leading to the capture of Ovidio Guzman who they say is “a senior member of the Sinaloa Cartel.”

Guzman is wanted by U.S. authorities for charges of conspiracy to traffic cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana into the United States.

Guzman Lopez was detained on January 5, 2023 in Sinaloa, Mexico after an intense operation by law enforcement authorities.
