Ex-senior cop Marco Vidal wanted for questioning after viral video

By Aaron Humes: This evening, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams told the press that “there is all intent” to interview a man formerly one of their own about his recent activities in relation to the Ramnarace triple murder in Belmopan.

A video has been circulated on social media appearing to show former Assistant Commissioner of Police Marco Vidal and two other men visiting a store in Maya Mopan, Belmopan.

Asking whether police were investigating reports that Vidal sought surveillance footage from the store, the Commissioner confirmed that they were.

Press officer Assistant Superintendent of Police Fitzroy Yearwood advised, “We must be very careful not to be presumptuous about what is seen in that video. It [could] look like someone going to make a purchase.”

The Commissioner added that “the owner of the store is not cooperating, not even to make a complaint. When the video was shared on social media that send them into fear and [they] completely shut down. So, at this time we cannot even ascertain what the discussion was between them and Vidal.”

Some have theorized that Vidal was seeking to have the footage deleted as potential evidence against his nephew and accused killer of Jon, David and Vivian Ramnarace, Corporal Elmer Nah. Reports from their camp claim they were seeking to establish a potential alibi for Nah, who has publicly denied involvement in the killings.

The Commissioner further noted that “the other two persons have been interviewed by the police and efforts made to locate [Vidal] for an interview is fruitless so far. But there is all intent to carry out such interview.”

Former ACP Vidal stepped down after an internal investigation found errors on his part in managing the COST team that led to several of that group being charged with conspiracy to land a drug plane in Belize in November of 2021. Nah was separately found in that area with ammunition that another officer later said he forgot to sign for, avoiding disciplinary charges although the matter is under review. He is also suspected in the murder of Michael Williams a few days before the Ramnaraces and in the same general vicinity.
