International News: Mexican President says he will consider Chapo’s request

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Mexico’s President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said that he will consider a plea by imprisoned cartel kingpin, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the Associated Press reports.

El Chapo wants to return to Mexico to serve out his sentence.

Guzman was sentenced to life in prison in the U.S. for a drug conspiracy that led to widespread violence for over 20 years.

Guzman’s attorney, Jose Rodriguez says that the Sinaloa kingpin has lived in poor conditions in prison since the 2019 conviction.

President Lopez Obrador said that the plea will be reviewed.

 “You always have to keep the door open when it comes to human rights,” he added.
