International News: Teachers in Venezuela protest for higher pay amidst inflation

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Teachers in Venezuela are protesting and demanding higher pay amidst inflation in the country, Latin Post reports.

A group of economists estimate that inflation in the country reached about 305% in 2022.

The administration of President Nicolas Maduro in efforts to decrease spending and increase taxes, has not increased salaries for public-sector employees since March of 2022.

School teachers earn a starting wage of about 460 bolivars per month ($23 US), the report indicated.

The educators say that this is not enough to cover basic needs like food and medicine
