By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Ladyville man is out on bail after being charged with breaking into the home of his ex-lover to attack her.

Thirty-five-year-old Jose Portillo appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, charged with a single count of burglary.

He pleaded not guilty to the offense and was offered bail in the sum of $3,000 plus one surety of the same, which he was able to meet.

Allegations against him are that on January 11, he broke into the home of the 48-year-old victim, who was not at home at the time but was alerted about the break-in by her son-in-law. She told police when she arrived at her home Portillo was standing there with a knife in his hand and attacked but was stopped by her son-in-law and another family member.
