By Benjamin Flowers: Police say they have no evidence that the relatives of police corporal Elmner Nah have been going around interfering with those who are possible witnesses to the murder of the Ramnarace brothers in Belmopan, for which Nah has been charged.
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, head of communications for the office of the commissioner of police, acknowledged that there are suggestions that Nah’s relatives have been interviewing possible witnesses and requesting to see any surveillance footage they may have of the murder on New Year’s Eve 2022; however, he said that the reports have not been confirmed.
“When your relative is in trouble you would do anything to try to disprove the laws or investigators, so if that person is out there tampering with witnesses, and these witnesses report it to the police then we know exactly how to deal with those persons. But if you sit in silence and do not report it to the police then we wouldn’t have knowledge of what you’re going through,” Yearwood said.
He went on to say that police owe it to the victims of crime to ensure that they pursue those responsible and that anyone interfering with the process of justice is interfering with a key responsibility of the police.
“I want to take this opportunity to invite these persons whether you’re being interviewed or being asked for your video footage and so forth to call us and notify us so that we can put a stop to these persons,” he added.
Yearwood told the media that, apart from being charged for the double murder of brothers David and John Ramnarace, Nah will also have the attempted murder charge in relation to John’s wife Vivian, upgraded to murder after she died on Sunday, January 15.
