International News: China reports rise in COVID-19 hospitalizations

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Thursday, the World Health Organization (WHO) published a weekly report that indicated a rise in COVID-19 hospitalization in China in the week through to January 15, 2023, Reuters report.

According to the report, hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients rose by 70% to 63,307 versus the previous week.

The country has reported a surge in COVID-19 cases since December when Beijing abandoned its zero-covid policy.

Health experts and the WHO have called on China to provide comprehensive reports following claims that the country is under-reporting cases and deaths.
