By Aaron Humes: The U.S. Embassy in Belmopan was very busy on Thursday, making no less than three donations of assistance to the Belizean government and non-governmental organizations across the capital.
The last of those ceremonies took place on the Western Regional Hospital compound where Ambassador to Belize Michelle Kwan donated three oxygen generators and medical equipment valued at US$678,000 to Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard, which will support Belize in rendering essential lifesaving care.
The donation includes three state-of-the-art oxygen generators that will provide Belize with a long-term sustainable solution to support the country’s oxygen needs; 16 hospital beds, and hundreds of medical equipment items.
As Ambassador Kwan noted of this and the previous donation, “These two projects reflect the strong partnership between Belize and the United States to better protect the health, safety, and wellbeing of the Belizean people. We are proud to stand with Belize to advance a safer and healthier future for all Belizeans.”
Minister Bernard indicated that the oxygen generators would be shared among the Western, Northern, and Southern Regional Hospitals, while a portion of the donation goes to the newly renovated Belmopan Polyclinic which also shares space with the Western Regional.
