By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize made its first 2023 shipment of cattle to Mexico on Friday.
“Today 20th of January a total of 160 head of cattle or 102,612 lbs of live beef on their way to Mexico,” said Belarmino Esquivel, Principal Agriculture Officer and Livestock Director at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE).
“This is the first export of beef cattle recorded for the new year 2023 and we remain committed, going for more exports.
“The export of 160 heads of cattle to Mexico will generate a total of Bz$ 230,877 to the Belizean cattle Industry subsector economy. Kudos to all involved in this great initiative.”
Esquivel said Belize expects to increase its exports to Mexico in 2023.
In 2022, Belize exported 4,995 head of cattle to the SuKarne company in Mexico. That totalled approximately 2.997 million lbs. valued at approximately BZ$6.45 million.
