Mother to stand trial for hitting 7-year-old son in the face with a knife; Child lost an eye

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Mahogany Heights woman will stand trial for causing her seven-year-old son to lose an eye after hitting him several times in the face with a knife.

Thirty-year-old Natalie Palacio appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where she learned that she will stand trial in the April session of the High Court of Belize for a charge of maiming.

At her preliminary inquiry, the prosecution presented 10 documentary exhibits and the names of 10 witnesses, convincing the Magistrate that there was indeed a case against her.

Palacio is out on $8,000 bail with two sureties of $4,000 each.

Allegations against Palacio are that on February 14, 2022, Palacio hit her son in the face with a knife several times causing irreparable damage to one of his eyes.

At her arraignment, Palacio told the magistrate ” “I only stin him because he made the baby drop and burst his head.”

The child was removed from her care and placed with his father who lives in another village.
