By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Friday, January 20, 2023, officials from the Taiwan Embassy in Belize and Taiwan Technical Mission attended the launching ceremony of “Empowered and Resilient Women” training program.
The program was launched by Peacework Belize and Taiwan ICDF.
Attendees included Dr. Carol Babb, Director of Peacework Belize, Ambassador Diane Haylock, Secretary-General of YWCA of Belize and former Belizean Ambassador to Taiwan, Ronelli Requena and Amira Corea-Pelayo, founders and owners of Belizean women enterprises.
The “Empowered and Resilient Women” program is organized by Peacework Belize and funded by TaiwanICDF under the Belize-Taiwan cooperative framework of the Project titled “Enhancing the Economic Empowerment of Women in Belize in the COVID-19 Post Pandemic Era: Technical Assistance for Women’s Employment, Entrepreneurship and Financial Inclusion.”
The program aims at promoting feminist leadership, financial literacy, gender equality and basic human rights of women in Belize.
“As women are the backbones of our family and society, the Embassy will continuously work with the Government of Belize, NGOs and other organizations to advance women’s capacity building and to enhance the prosperity and welfare of Belizean people,” the Taiwan Embassy in Belize said.
