Prime Minister: “Plan Belize Medium-term development strategy sets a path every Belizean can see”

Posted: Monday, January 23, 2023. 3:50 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment launched the Plan Belize Medium-term development strategy (MTDS).

The MTDS is a plan to serve as the national source for strategic planning, giving the Government a pathway to achieving multidimensional development objectives.

Prime Minister John Briceño says that the Medium-Term development strategy lays out 226 projects and programs to improve and increase the quality of life for all Belizeans and sets a path every Belizean can see.

“It sets out government’s priorities and explains how we continue to realize our initiatives.

Let me assure you: every single ministry, through the efforts of our public officers along with the help of our partners, has made the MTDS, and the vision it encapsulates, the driving force behind their actions,” the Prime Minister said.

In addition, PM Briceño says that his administration’s remarkable results in a short span of time, ‘should inspire in everyone the confidence that the outcomes and targets detailed in the MTDS are not arbitrary objectives, but rational, genuine, and achievable targets.’

The Prime Minister said that the plan includes to have every Belizean covered by NHI by the end of our first term in office.

“In the new fiscal year we will roll out NHI in the OW District, that means that over two hundred and sixty nine thousand Belizeans will be registered in this life changing program,” he added.

The Prime Minister says that when the nation faced stark 30 percent unemployment rate, this Government encouraged business investments and restored confidence by embarking on meaningful reforms.

“We aggressively embarked on enhancing MSMEs and creating an environment in which they can thrive,” he noted.

PM Briceño affirmed that the result of this plan is an unprecedented 5% unemployment rate.

With regards to land inequality, PM Briceño said that government listened and conducted mobile land clinics across the country.

And as for housing, the Government and Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing has initiated the affordable housing program.

The Prime Minister says that nation building is at the center of this plan with realistic, proactive plans and commitments to build a progressive nation that fulfills those noble principles set forth in the preamble to our constitution.
