By Aaron Humes: Two wooden houses were completely burned and a third cement structure partially burned on Monday morning in the “Vietnam Area” of Seine Bight Village, Stann Creek District, according to police.
At about 8:30 a.m., Lavern Arzu was in her yard when she saw thick smoke coming from her house, which quickly spread and destroyed the building. No one was injured during the fire.
Arzu’s 20-by-20-foot wooden house was destroyed along with its contents, for a total value of $30,000. The fire spread to a nearby wooden house owned by Macaria Arzu and destroyed it and its contents to a total value of $35,000. A third house which is a two-story cement house measuring about 30 by 40 feet was partially burnt. The value is yet to be ascertained. The owner is Matthew Arzu who resides in the United States of America.
Police say neither Lavern’s nor Macaria’s house was insured. Lavern’s house did not have electricity or a stove, ruling out those as causes of the fire.
Police are investigating.
