By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Dairo Antonio Usuga, one of Colombia’s most wanted cartel kingpin pled guilty in the U.S., the Associated Press reports.
Usuga pled guilty to smuggling charges, admitting that he led a cartel and paramilitary group that trafficked in cocaine and deadly violence.
Usuga admitted that “homicides were committed.”
Usuga agreed to forfeit $216 million as part of the plea deal.
The “Gulf Clan” terrorized much of northern Colombia to control major cocaine-smuggling routes.
U.S. officials say that Usuga is one of the most dangerous drug traffickers on the planet.
Former Colombian President Iván Duque compared Usuga to the infamous 1980s-era kingpin Pablo Escobar.
