Special Envoy’s Wonder Woman is Special Needs educator, Norvea Sabido

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Special Envoy for the development of families and children, Rossana Briceno features outstanding Belizean women making a difference in Belize every week.

Today’s feature is on special educator, Norvea Sabido.

Sabido has been an educator for 30 years.

Norvea holds a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of the West Indies (UWI); a Bachelor of Science in Primary Education from the University of Belize, and an Associate’s Degree in Primary Education from St. John’s College Junior College.

Norvea taught at Belize School for the Deaf for 2 years. She also worked as a special education teacher at Stella Maris School for 12 years, before moving to the Special Education Unit, formerly known as NaRCIE, in 2007, where she is currently employed.

At Stella Maris, she was recognized as Teacher of the Year and Special Education Teacher of the Year by the Ministry of Education.

Norvea has coordinated and provided targeted reading intervention to selected students identified with reading difficulties in the lower division from various schools in Belize City.

 She has also worked as a teacher trainer, equipping teachers to provide targeted interventions and support to students with special education needs.

The Special Envoy noted that Norvea is unwavering in her commitment to advancing quality and appropriate education for students with special needs. She is currently charged with providing support to the parents and teachers of students with special needs at selected preschools and primary schools in the Belize District, and Stella Maris Special Education & Life Skills Learning Center.

Norvea is the product of humble beginnings and has had as her compass hard work, dedication to her profession, and commitment to persons with special needs.

She is married and has three daughters who are following her path of commitment and dedication to the development of Belize.
