Prime Minister John Briceño to receive debt restructuring award, speaks at high-level discussion on Foreign Debt

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment John Briceño is to receive a debt restructuring award tonight in New York where he has been invited to speak at a high-level discussion on Foreign Debt.

The Ministry of Economic Development (MED) on Thursday reported that the Prime Minister today attended the Latin America Capital Markets Summit in New York City and was to speak at a high-level discussion on Navigating Shocks and Local and Foreign Debt for 2023.

“He delved into the discussion of the Blue Bond which reduced Belize’s nаtіоnаl dеbt bу BZD 500 mіllіоn, сrеаtіng аn еѕtіmаtеd BZD 360 mіllіоn іn соnѕеrvаtіоn funds which will be uѕеd fоr thе рrоtесtіоn оf mоrе thаn 30% of our mаrіnе wаtеrѕ,” the Ministry of Economic Development said in a social media post.

MED also said that on Thursday night, Prime Minister Briceño will be receiving a Sovereign Debt Restructuring of the Year Award, on behalf of the Government and people of Belize.
