Cristo Rey Village Council says Health Department to investigate contaminated water

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the Cristo Rey Village Council in Cayo informed residents that it has investigated reports of drains with a strong stench.

The council says that they visited a specific culvert and noticed grey water (domestic wastewater) exiting the drains.

“This grey water exits and leads into the river, which contaminates the same water we drink, contaminates the fish we eat, and contaminates the air we breathe. THIS IS A PUBLIC HAZARD,” the council noted.

The council says that the health department has been notified and will make an assessment.

“It is illegal to connect your sewer, soak-away or drains to the main drains in the village, in a way that puts at risk the health of the people and the environment,” the council stated.
