By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The San Ignacio and Santa Elena House of Culture (SISE HOC) is calling community members interested in reviving cultural activities in the twin town to a Cultural Engagement Community Meeting on Tuesday, February 7.
The meeting is set for 5:30 pm at the San Ignacio and Santa Elena House of Culture at the former San Ignacio Hospital.
“We’re calling a community cultural engagement for the community of San Ignacio and Santa Elena to charter the way forward with cultural activities, bringing the community together with ideas brainstorming together so that we can lead a cultural revival for 2023,” said Nalleli Yacab, Benque Viejo del Carmen House of Culture Coordinator who has been charged with helping the SISE HOC get reactivated.
Yacab said the SISE HOC has been inactive due to lack of resources, but the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) is interested in reviving the Cayo District’s main town’s branch.
“We are hoping that we can relaunch the cultural life in San Ignacio in partnership with the community stakeholders. We’re looking for artisans, performing artists, visual artists, painters, performers, community activists, anthropologists, historians so that we can brainstorm together. We’re also looking for volunteers or interns so that together with the community we can bring this place to life again,” Yacab said.
“We’re inviting community members to be engaged in designing the way forward for the San Ignacio and Santa Elena House of Culture.”
