By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Resilient Rural Belize (RRB) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) held a chicken training workshop for 20 farmers, mostly women, from Armenia and surrounding villages in the Cayo District.
“[The] training session … was focused on the general aspects of growing and maintaining healthy local chickens,” MAFSE said in a social media post.
“The training was organized by RRB and was facilitated by Agriculture Department Extension Services of the Cayo District.”
MAFSE said the Co-operatives Department of Belize also supported the workshop. The farmers who participated have expressed interest in organizing themselves into a cooperative.
According to Registrar of Cooperatives Gareth Murillo, groups interested in forming themselves into cooperatives must undergo eight different training sessions before the Cooperatives Department approves them to become a cooperative.
