The University of Belize launches Hummingbird Analytical Laboratory

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On January 27, 2023, the University of Belize (UB) launched its Hummingbird Analytical Laboratory.

UB says that the vision of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at the University of Belize Hummingbird Analytical Laboratory is to provide advanced analytical testing to meet the needs of institutional, national, and international stakeholders through scholarly research and laboratory capacity by providing high quality, accurate and reliable analytical work and results that will foster research and monitoring in the agricultural, environmental and industrial sectors.

Services provided by the Lab will be water quality testing, pesticide testing, heavy metal testing, microplastics testing, plastic testing, forensic material screening, and the Percentage of organic carbon in soils.

“The Hummingbird Analytical Laboratory will provide much-needed analytical services to stakeholders across the country. The university is proud to be the principal agency to provide independent analysis for the environment, industry services, and food to name a few,” UB stated.

“In keeping with our mission to meet national development, the provision of a well-equipped lab that will provide independent, expert technical knowledge and highly trained people will bring prosperity to our nation,” the University added.
