By Breaking Belize News Staff: An elderly American national living in the Cayo district had his license suspended in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.

Santa Familia resident 71-year-old Ted Brittingham, appeared unrepresented in court answering to a single charge of drove motor vehicle not covered by third-party risk insurance.

He immediately pleaded guilty and was fined $250 plus a $5.00 cost of court which he must pay by February 28, 2023, or spend two months in jail for default.

Additionally, his license was suspended for a year. The court set the effective date for the suspension for the day after his court appearance, giving him enough time to drive home to his village.

Brittingham can apply to have the suspension reviewed as early as April 26, 2023 (three months after its effective date).
