Man charged with aggravated assault with a firearm walks after victim drops charges

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A man charged with pulling a gun on his estranged girlfriend was set free after the victim decided to drop the charges.

Twenty-seven-year-old Gareth Sanchez appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court answering to a single charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.

The 18-year-old victim appeared in court, took the stand and told the Magistrate that she is no longer in a relationship with Sanchez and does not wish to pursue the matter any further.

Sanchez, who would have faced an automatic 90-day remand due to the nature of the offense, was released for want of prosecution.
