By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Port Layola continued in their winning streak recording their third consecutive win dropping subchampions Verdes 2-1 at their own home grounds at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio.

Despite having a new coach, Argentine Martín ‘Tincho’ Andrade, Verdes are still not up to the level they’ve had over the last two seasons conceding their first defeat after a draw and a win.

Gilroy ‘Bredda’ Thurton converted the opener to put Port ahead 2-1 and Michael Palacio gave them the 2-1 win with his fourth goal of the season.

Again, Mexican defender Marco Antonio Zavala scored for Verdes for a second consecutive week. His goal came in the 55th minute.

The win keeps Port tied with San Pedro at nine points, but they conceded the top spot as the islanders blew out Bandits 6-0 and now have a better goal difference. Whichever way, the three-wins-in-a-row start is an extremely good one for the Belize City side.
