By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Progresso won their first game in three tries in the Premier League of Belize Closing Championship on Saturday night. The Northern club beat Benque Viejo United 2-0 at the Edmundo Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen.

Orlando Velazquez scored the first goal in the sixth minute in a game that turned out very competitive. Benque tried incessantly to even the score but to no avail. In the waning moments of the match, new acquisition Donnel Arzu converted the second for Progresso to seal the 2-0 victory.

The stories of the two teams are opposite of each other. Benque Viejo United started off with a stunning 1-0 victory over defending Champions Altitude at Independence but after that conceded 1-0 to Verdes at home before falling again on Saturday night to Progresso.

The Northern side had a bad start falling 2-0 to the San Pedro Pirates. They then drew 0-0 with Altitude before dropping Benque Viejo United 2-0 on Saturday.

While Benque only have three points to show for their efforts, Progresso now have four.
