By Aaron Humes: Police say they are soon expecting to lay charges against two men who robbed an Indian businessman on Saturday morning, not far from the center of downtown Belize City.

As enumerated by Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero, Head of Eastern Division, “On Saturday, January 28, police responded to a stabbing [and] robbery report at Euphrates Avenue. Upon their arrival, they came upon one Deepak Katariya, a 34-year-old businessman, who reported that he was doing a business transaction when he was approached by two male persons, one who held him, and the other proceeded to inflict stab wounds to his chest area. Quick police response led to the detention of one person who had a bag. When it was searched it contained the stolen items that belonged to Deepak Katariya. Thereafter, one other person was detained and the investigation is ongoing.”

ACP Romero added that “The information we’ve gathered is [that] yes, they were following him as he did business runs in the City.”

A third person is also being sought, as Katariya recovers in the hospital in stable condition.
