Family feud over dogs leads to a death threat, assault, and conviction in court

By Aaron Humes: Dogs are “man’s best friend” – except when they cause a mess in your bedroom.

In the case of a Ladyville man, a dispute with his sister over the family dogs led to rash words, a shove, and ultimately an appearance in the Magistrate’s Court.

30-year-old Amrick Escobar of Lord’s Bank Road, Ladyville, pleaded guilty to using threatening words and common assault following an argument at the family residence on Friday.

After finding that the dogs had once again left faeces in his room, an argument ensued and Escobar allegedly threatened to kill his sister, though he said in court that he had meant to say he would kill the dogs instead. Compounding matters, he tried to leave but shoved his sister out of the way while doing so.

The court fined him a total of $160 including court costs, due by February 28, 2023, in default of which he would serve five weeks in jail.
