U.S. Ambassador and Minister of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics, and E-Governance discuss Millennium Challenge Corporation

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On January 30, 2023, U.S. Ambassador Michelle Kwan and Minister of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics, and E-Governance Michel Chebat met and discussed the Millennium Challenge Corporation.

In 2021, Belize was awarded a Millennium Challenge Corporation Grant for poverty alleviation work.

Discussions included Millennium Challenge Corporation’s compact development process and what it may mean for energy in Belize.

“The conversation was wide-ranging and productive, including the ongoing efforts to modernize government services and make them more accessible to the public and the future of Belize’s ports,” the U.S. Embassy in Belize noted.

The Millennium Challenge Corporation invests hundreds of millions of U.S. government dollars each year in development aid that help its partner nations grow economically while promoting local ownership and long-run sustainability.
