International News: Taiwan activates defenses in response to China’s intrusions

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Taiwan has put its navy on alert and activated missile systems in response to intrusions by China’s military aircraft and warships, the Associated Press reports.

According to the report, nearby operations by 34 Chinese military aircraft and 9 warships have triggered Taiwan’s move.

There has been increased international concern following Beijing’s incursions near Taiwan.

Last month, U.S. officials issued a memo informing officers to be prepared for a U.S. -China conflict over Taiwan in 2025.

On Tuesday, Taiwanese officials say that 20 Chinese aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait.

There have been heightened tensions since China claims the self-governing island.
