By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing said it intends to continue building planned communities like the Blackberry Ridge Estate in Burrell Boom around the country.

“Yes, we will continue to build,” MIDH Chief Executive Officer Victor Espat told Breaking Belize News (BBN).

“We are building individual houses in constituencies depending on the availability of land of the recipients but clearly we want to be able to duplicate these planned communities which make it more efficient and keep the cost down.”

CEO Espat said the MIDH is collaborating with the Natural Resources Ministry in that regard.

“We’re working very closely with the Ministry of Natural Resources,” Espat said.

“I think they have identified or they are acquiring several parcels throughout the country where we’ll be able to do this type of a project.”

As to Blackberry Ridge Estate, the MIDH already built and handed over the first 50 houses and now plans to start Phase 2, which includes public facilities like a police station, a health clinic, sports fields, and a preschool, at the start of the next fiscal year in April.
