By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) has called a meeting with potato growers to discuss marketing arrangements for the new crop season.
“Potatoes growers from the main productive areas of Stann Creek, Orange Walk and Cayo Districts are currently attending a meeting in Belmopan with technical officers from the Ministry of Agriculture,” MAFSE said in a statement posted on social media.
“The purpose of the meeting is to discuss potato price, distribution, yield and date of harvesting for the 2022-2023 crop season.”
Last year the potato growers had a very poor potato season as 60 to 70 percent of the crop was lost to a disease which apparently came in with the imported seeds. The shortage caused MAFSE to allow importation of boat potatoes and potato fries to satisfy the demand.
