By Aaron Humes: This morning, defence counsel for interdicted Police Officer, Corporal Elmer Nah; his common-law wife, Epiphania Caliz, and her brother, PC Manuel Caliz, will attempt to persuade Senior Magistrate Baja Shoman that they have no case to answer on two counts of keeping ammunition without a valid gun license.
The trial continued on Thursday with a forensic analyst and scenes of crime technician testifying, while a third statement was agreed on and read into evidence because the testator was unable to appear in person.
That closed the case for the state with a total of seven witnesses testifying.
Corporal Nah is not legally represented but Richard “Dickie” Bradley represents Epiphania Caliz and Leeroy Banner represents P.C. Manuel Caliz.
The trio are accused but deny keeping 135 rounds of .223 Remington live ammunition and four 5.56 by 45-millimeter rounds of live ammunition found in one of two vehicles on November 6, 2021, hours after a drug plane had landed on the Southern Highway. Corporal Nah says he was taking the ammunition to a colleague in Belmopan and was on vacation leave at the time.
