Enhancing regional security: Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries participate in conference of security ministers

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On February 2, 2023, Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, Kareem Musa, and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dr. Anthony Rosado represented Belize at the First Regional Conference of Security Ministers.

The First Regional Conference of Security Ministers includes ministers from Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic.

The conference was held in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Ministers and Secretaries recognized the growing problem of transnational organized crime and how it has and continues to impact regional security, particularly in areas related to human trafficking and smuggling, trafficking of illegal firearms, drug trafficking, gangs, cyber threats, and other related crimes.

Ministers and Secretaries representing the countries agreed to establish communication channels and execute joint actions to strengthen the fight against organized crime.
