Exploring Belize’s marine treasures: President of World Wildlife Fund visits protected areas

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Prime Minister John Briceño said that he accompanied President and CEO of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) USA, Carter Roberts, and officials of WWF on a tour of Belize’s marine protected areas.

The Prime Minister noted that WWF is in the country to discuss with the Blue Bond/PFP Unit the implementation of the Project Financing for Permanence and the processes to identify a sustainable path and mechanism for the conservation of our blue space and rich marine resources.

Also participating in the tour were Vice President of Oceans Conservation of WWF, Johan Bergenas, WWF Belize’s Osmany Salas, CEO in the Office of the Prime Minister and Ministry of Investment, Narda Garcia, Head of Belize’s Blue Bond/PFP Unit, Beverly Wade as well as officials from local entities such as Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association (TASA) and fishers and management of tourism resorts in the Turneffe Atoll area.

Minister for Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, Andre Perez also attended a wrap-up session with the visiting team and local officials.
