International News: Chile declares ‘State of Emergency’ as wildfires spread

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the Chilean Government announced that it has widened the areas under the state of emergency as wildfires have consumed over 19,000 acres, Reuters report.

The heat wave continues to affect the nation and the government has declared a catastrophe in the region of Biobio.

President Gabriel Boric announced on Thursday that the regions of Nuble and Biobio were experiencing a catastrophe.

This declaration allows for armed forces to provide greater coordination in firefighting and public security.

Hundreds of homes have been destroyed by the fires which have also caused a disruption in traffic on highways.
