The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) and Minister Jose Abelardo Mai can’t stop praising the San Pablo Community School in Orange Walk for being a progressive school in developing its horticulture program.

“Today is the second day that children of San Pablo Community School in Orange Walk are enjoying their meals at school,” Minister Mai said in a social media post late on Thursday evening.

“The School Feeding Program is complemented with fresh veggies grown in the school garden!! An excellent example of the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Education working together and pooling resources to meet common goals.”

Minister Mai thanked the technical staff of the Orange Walk Agriculture Department who have been working together with the San Pablo Community School and the Ministry of Education for supporting what he termed as “this bold initiative”.

“San Pablo Community Primary School in Orange Walk continues giving children healthy choices,” MAFSE said as it reposted Minister Mai’s post.

“Their students practice direct garden-to-table habits as they eat in their cafeteria what they produce in their garden,”

Last week Wednesday, January 25, MAFSE applauded the horticulture program at the Orange Walk School.

“The school practices sustainable gardening and has built agriculture into their school curriculum at all levels,” MAFSE said.

“They have done bokashi training and even have a tilapia pond, all to show students the value of agriculture in their lives, as a healthy alternative lifestyle and as an income earner.”

As part of the collaboration program with the school, on Tuesday, January 31, both the Agriculture Ministry and the Sugar Industry Research and Development Institute (SIRDI) made a presentation and demonstration on the use and application of the biological control agent, Metarhizium, to the San Pablo school students and teachers.

MAFSE said the San Pablo Community Primary School promotes organic production and integrated pest control and healthy eating.

“San Pablo Community Primary School, located in the Orange Walk District, emphasizes teaching real-life skills to its students,” MAFSE said.

MAFSE prides itself that its extension officers are assisting the Orange Walk school in its agriculture initiative through which they practice sustainable methods of cultivation and innovative agricultural procedures.
