Taiwan helps Belize strengthen disaster prevention with early warning system technology

Posted: Friday, February 3, 2023. 5:35 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Taiwan launched the “Flood Warning Capacity Improvement for the Belize River Basin Project” in 2022 and the ceremony for this project was held today.

Through the introduction of Taiwan’s mature Disaster prevention technology, Taiwan is able to assist Belize to establish an early warning system and improve the government’s disaster prevention and relief capabilities.

This is a continuation of the launching of the “Belize Urban Resilience and Disaster Prevention Project” in 2019.

The project is being conducted with the goal to improve Belize’s disaster prevention and response capabilities and minimize the impact of disasters on life and property.

The project will focus on the expansion of the original early warning system, the addition of new water level monitoring stations, and resilience and disaster prevention at the community level.
