Bringing Belize to Taiwan: Ambassador Candice Pitts delivers a fascinating lecture on Belizean Literature

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On February 3, 2023, Belize’s Ambassador to Taiwan, Dr. Candice A. Pitts delivered a lecture on Belizean literature at the 2023 Taipei International Book Exhibition.

Ambassador Pitts delivered the lecture entitled, “The Journey Belize has Travelled: A Complementary Reading of ‘Beka Lamb’ and ‘Jada Goes to Belize’.”

Ambassador Pitts deployed both texts, “Beka Lamb” and “Jada Goes to Belize,” to take the audience on a journey with Belize from colonial status to independence and nationhood, to post-independence and modern Belize—a country now characterized as a beacon of democracy, with stable politics and economy, and many renowned natural and national wonders.

Ambassador Pitts also encouraged the audience to purchase the books and visit Belize.
