Police officers, students at Mopan Tech complete Mandarin course

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On February 3, 2023, Taiwan’s Ambassador to Belize, David Kuan-Chou Chien attended completion ceremonies for Mandarin courses in Belmopan and Benque Viejo.

In Belmopan, police officers at the National Police Training Academy received certificates of completion for having completed the course under the Taiwan-Belize Mandarin program.

Present at the ceremony was Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bart Jones and Director of the academy, Leslie Wade.

Several students from Mopan Technical High School also took the course and received their certificates.

Invited guests at the ceremony in Benque Viejo included Area Representative, Jorge Espat, Senator Collet Montejo, and Principal of Mopan, Katie Jones.

A total of 56 people completed the Mandarin course.

During his remarks, Ambassador Chien expressed his gratitude to the Government of Belize for supporting Taiwan-Belize Mandarin Program, aiming to provide Belizeans with opportunities of learning Mandarin and Taiwanese culture.

“Through the Mandarin Program and many other Taiwan-Belize bilateral cooperation projects, the Embassy will continue to work hand-in-hand with the Government of Belize for the benefits of our two countries and peoples,” the Taiwan Embassy noted.
