By Breaking Belize News Staff: After months of waiting, Major Gilbert Swaso will finally take up the office of Ombudsman in Belize. Despite being appointed and approved by the parliament, Major Swaso’s assumption of office had been delayed for various reasons. At first, the Prime Minister stated that Major Swaso was simply too busy to deal with the appointment, but later explained that it had to first pass through the House of Representatives.
On February 3rd, the appointment finally passed through the House, with strong support from both sides of the aisle. During the proceedings, Major Swaso was described as a public servant who served with distinction in the Belize Defence Force and as the mayor of Dangriga. He was praised for his approachability, deep concern for his people, and his dedication to serving all Belizeans.
With the appointment now approved, Major Swaso is expected to take up the office of Ombudsman in the coming days. This appointment is seen as an important step towards ensuring that the rights of all Belizeans are protected and upheld.
