Football madness in Corozal: Game between Sarteneja and Chunox ends with multiple fights on the pitch

By Aaron Humes: A match between neighbours Sarteneja Shipstern Football Club and Chunox Football Club in the David Castillo Copa del Norte Tournament ended in farcical scenes on Sunday.

Various videos posted to social media show a series of fights between players and even some spectators breaking out all over the pitch. At least one of the fights involved rivals hitting each other with a piece of stick.

So far neither the organizers nor the Corozal Football Association (CFA), a district affiliate of the Football Federation of Belize (FFB), have commented.

But a social media account for an organization known as Corozal Pelicans F.C. condemned the “poor sportsmanship” shown on the field.

It called on the CFA and FFB Director of Competitions to look into this matter immediately and issue sanctions and suspensions on both sides as well as the organizers of the tournament.
