Verdes dump Wagiya 3-1, move up to 3rd place in Premier League of Belize

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes powered their way to a 3-1 win in the Premier League of Belize over homestanding Wagiya at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga on Sunday afternoon.

Izon Gill hit the opener for the Green Machine in the 15^th minute, but Verdes’ joy was extremely short-lived as Leston Garcia made it 1-1 in the very next minute.

Wagiya, however, couldn’t hold on to the lead. In the 35^th minute, Clayton Fitzgibbon shook his own next off a shot by Mexican Marco Antonio Zavala who has been too hot to handle in the Closing Championship.

Verdes ensured the win with a late goal by Eldon Reneau who struck in the 89^th minute for the final 3-1 victory.

Now with seven points, from two wins, a draw and a loss, Verdes jumped from fifth to third place, three points shy of Port Layola and the San Pedro Pirates.

For Wagiya, things have turned out horribly, recording their fourth consecutive loss keeping them tied underwater without any points.

In the other games, Benque United pulled off a 1-1 draw against Port Layola in Benque, Altitude drew 2-2 with the San Pedro Pirates, while the Bandits tied 0-0 with Progresso.
