By Breaking Belize News Staff: A man who was charged this week for robbing a minor with a fake gun told the court he didn’t remember the incident because he was drunk at the time.
Twenty-one-year-old Rupert Codd appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, charged with a single count of armed robbery. The Magistrate stressed to him that even though the firearm was fake, the fear felt by the victim was real.
He pleaded guilty to the offense and told the court, “I am not a criminal. I was under the influence and didn’t know what I was doing,”.
The Magistrate took into consideration that Codd had no previous convictions and fined him $3,000 plus $5 cost of court which he must pay by October 6 or he will spend eight months in jail for default.
