Cycling Federation of Belize advises cyclists of new rules regarding handlebars, garbage disposal

Prior to this weekend’s Digi Valentine Cycling Classic, the Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) advised cyclists of new rules: one about garbage disposal on race routes and the other about cyclists supporting themselves on the handlebars.

“First, in an effort to improve rider safety and the impact of racing on the environment, rubbish must be disposed of or deposited safely,” the Cycling Federation of Belize said.

“We do not (yet) have the “litter zones” along the routes, but we ask all riders to at least store empty water pouches in their pockets, instead of throwing them along the highway. Please let’s not litter unnecessarily during races.”

The CFB then explained the second rule change.

“Second, note that forbidden positions on the bike include sitting on the top tube, and using the forearms as point of support on the handlebars,” the CFB said.

“This ‘aero bar’ position is prohibited, except in time trials.”
