Posted: Thursday, February 9, 2023. 4:59 pm CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Oscar Quiroz will ride the 2023 Digi Valentine Cycling Tour this weekend defending his 2022 title as winner of the 2022 Digi Valentine Tour on Sunday, February 20.

Quiroz, who recently signed for the Miami Blazers, is still in Belize and will have the opportunity to jump on his bike and put the other riders to task using his 501 Valvoline Cycling Team jersey.

Organized by the Cycling Federation of Belize under the International Cycling Union regulations, the Digi Valentine’s Cycling Tour consists of three stages to be run on Saturday and Sunday, February 11-12, in and around Belize City.

The race has six categories: Elite, U23, Masters, Women, Junior, and Youths.

The first stage is the 58-mile Road Race which starts at 8:00 am on Saturday. The race starts at Constitution Park in Belize City, leads out to Leslie’s Imports on the George Price Highway, goes to Mile 25, comes back to Hattieville where it heads via the Burrell Boom Road to Data Pro. From there it heads to Digi Mirab via the Philip Goldson Highway.

The Women and Men’s Junior/Youths will race on a 38-mile circuit similar to the Elite race except that instead of going all the way to Mile 25, after the start at Constitution Park, they turn straight into the Boom Road at Hattieville. The Junior/Youth starts at 8:15 am and the Women at 8:20 am.

The second stage is a 3.6-mile Individual Time Trial which starts at 2:00 pm by the Philip Goldson International Airport on the John Smith Road that connects the airport with the George Price Highway. From the start points it runs 3.6 miles to the National Championship finish line near the Western Pines entrance.

The third and final stage, the 100-mile Road Race, will be run on Sunday. Due to the visit of Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel, the race which was to have started and finished by Digi Mirab on the Philip Goldson Highway, will now start and finish at Leslie’s Imports. The main race starts at 9:30 am and will cover the following route twice. From the start at Leslie’s the race heads to Data Pro via Hattieville, returns to the Faber’s Road Roundabout where it makes a U-turn to Data Pro. From there it returns to finish in front of Leslie’s Imports.

The Juniors/Youth and Women will race the same route once for 51 miles. The Junior/Youth start at 10:00 am and the Women 10:05 am.

The race is open to any rider national or foreigner.
