By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today at the launch of the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment’s Green Climate Fund (GCF) country program, Minister of Youth, Sports, and Transport, Rodwell Ferguson, spoke about the advancements and transformations in Belize and how they have affected the country’s climate. Reflecting on the past 25 years, he noted that while progress has been made in terms of infrastructure and development, the impact on the environment has not always been considered.
Ferguson drew attention to the loss of natural landmarks such as Monkey River Town and emphasized the need for a solution to restore these areas. He also highlighted the importance of preserving Belize’s natural beauty and called for a more conscious and responsible approach to development that takes the environment into account.
With the launch of the Green Climate Fund country programme 2022 to 2026, by the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment, there is an opportunity to address these concerns and work towards a sustainable future for Belize.
